Queer Country Musician Orville Peck on World Cafe – Tuesday at 2pm
Orville Peck makes country music in the spirit of the standards he grew up with, from Johnny Cash, to Merle Haggard, and Dolly Parton, but mixed in are other influences from his youth, like new wave and punk. Since his debut earlier this year, he's gained attention for his persona – always disguised in a lone ranger mask – and also for his forthright storytelling about same-sex love. Orville joins host Stephen Kallao today to talk about his varied musical influences and the response he’s received as a queer country musician. Plus, a live performance. On the next World Cafe.
World Cafe airs weekdays at 2:00 pm on KRCB-FM Radio 91 / streaming @ norcalpublicmedia.org / Listen live on-the-go with the FREE KRCB Mobile App from the App Store & Google Play.
