Commemorating Juneteenth with a Playlist Rooted in African American History on World Cafe –  Friday at 2pm

WorldCafe Primary Red cmykOn June 19, 1865, slaves in Galveston, Texas, one of the most remote slave states, learned that they were free. Today, Juneteenth, commemorates the end of slavery in the United States, and World Cafe celebrates the holiday with a playlist of music rooted in African American history – We’ll hear inspirational songs, like Sam Cooke’s “A Change Is Gonna Come,” and thought-provoking tracks, like J.S. Ondara’s “American Dream.” Plus, an interview and performance from Gary Clark Jr. recorded last year upon the release of his latest album, This Land. Coming up, on this special Juneteenth edition of the World Cafe with host Raina Douris.
