..a sort of blanket condemnation of the mental acuity of my generation. A hollow bass-baritone voice sounds, "Get used to it, sucker. That cool young guy you remember from past decades is looooong gone! So you have a lifetime membership in a club entitling you to march with pride in Occidental's April Fools parade. Just try to be thankful that we live in an age where being a fool is sort of...venerated, I guess you could say.

So...here on my playlist, the fooling, foolishness and foolery is wall-to-wall. Beautiful Fool, Fool in the Mirror, Fools for Each Other, even (lord help us) Running Out of Fools, as if that could ever happen.

The show begins and end with two versions of Freddie Mercury's Foolin' Around and from there proceeds to musical wonders like the (late) great Guy Clark and Fool on the Roof, Fools for Each Other and Fool in the Mirror (you'll love this one.)

I've bragged in other promos and I'll do so again - - Three (3) different versions of Ship of Fools - - The Grateful Dead, Elvis Costello and the Persuasions, a varied menu. I like all three, but--you'll see--The Dead really own it.

Some unusual folks in the line-up - - The Fool by Bhi Bhiman, Good and Foolish Times from I See Hawks in L.A., and Cantering on Fool presented by Eddie from Ohio. Where else do you find these kinds of offerings. No charge, friends (except when we have a pledge drive a couple of times a year.)

Finally, just about the time you think you've got it made, have it all figured out, and aren't intimidated by the ever-present word "Fool", along comes Fool's Paradise by Brandi Shearer and the Robin Nolan Trio from their album Rendezvous at the Nightery. Frankly, it don't get no better than this.

Enjoy April, Fools!
