From Homeless to Housed: Labath Landing
The City of Rohnert Park’s unsheltered population has increased fivefold in 7 years to over 250 people in 2022. From Homeless to Housed focuses on the people and institutions addressing homelessness in our communities. We hear from those designing and building a new 60-unit interim supportive housing project, as well as representatives from the City of Rohnert Park, DignityMoves, HomeFirst Services, and residents themselves as they move into a place where they can get out of survival mode, take a breath, and find the mental and emotional capacity to focus on stabilizing their lives.

Living on the edge

Examining the Housing Crisis in the Bay Area

Many people work full time and still find themselves without a place to live in the expensive Bay Area housing market. Due to unemployment and high healthcare bills, it is common for families to be just one paycheck away from losing their housing. RVs line the streets of Bay Area cities, and many people are co-housing with others. Those with no resources find themselves out on the street. NorCal Public Media examines the challenges of those living on the margins of the affordable housing crisis in this live television and online streaming special event.

Will Carruthers, Managing Editor of the North Bay Bohemian, discusses rent assistance and eviction protection, as well as other municipal and county regulations that impact housing availability. Jenna Garcia, Rohnert Park Housing Administrator, and Stephen Sotomayor, Healdsburg Housing Administrator, discuss the role of municipalities in finding solutions to the housing crisis. NorCal reporter Pamela Lorence speaks with Tran Nguyen, journalist for the San Jose Spotlight, on housing efforts in Silicon Valley.
