This week we present a special edition of Art of the Song celebrating the legendary folk music club, Caffè Lena. The year 2020 marks the 60th anniversary of the caffè as well as Sarah Craig’s 25th year as executive director. Music heals. Music builds community. There is no place where that is more evident than Caffè Lena.
Located in Saratoga Springs, New York, Caffè Lena presents a wide variety of music in an intimate setting steeped in history. The Library of Congress calls Caffè Lena “An American treasure,” and they have been recognized by The GRAMMY Foundation for important contributions to the development of American music.
Viv sat on stage for an intimate conversation with executive director Sarah Craig and sound technician Joe Deuel, who has been an integral part of the caffè for 47 years. We put the live interview together with some of Sarah and Joe’s favorite songs from the Live at Caffè Lena: Music from America’s Legendary Coffeehouse (1967 to 2013) Box Set.
Art of the Song can be heard Thursday nights at 11:00 pm on KRCB FM Radio 91 / streaming @ norcalpublicmedia.org / Listen on the go - download the FREE KRCB mobile app from the App Store & Google Play!
