We’ll remember legendary drummer Ginger Baker, who died Sunday at age 80 after a lengthy illness. Baker is perhaps best known as the drummer for Cream, featuring Jack Bruce and Eric Clapton. But he was a versatile player who favored jazz and whose musical life saw him collaborating with African music legend Fela Kuti, post-punk icons Public Image Ltd., and space rock outfit Hawkwind. We’ll hear selections from throughout Baker’s career on this episode, including his work with Masters of Reality.

We'll also remember Grateful Dead lyricist Robert Hunter, who died Monday at age 78. In addition to his work with the Dead, Hunter also collaborated with Bruce Hornsby, Los Lobos and Bob Dylan.

We’ll remember singer-songwriter Justin Townes Earle, who died on August 23 at the age of 38. He is the son of musician Steve Earle and produced a series of critically acclaimed recordings since 2007. In addition to music from several of his releases we’ll hear selections from Jason Isbell, Centro-Matic and Old ‘97s.

Listen for selections by Beth Bombara, The Bird and The Bee and more artists featured on our Best of 2019 list. We'll remember Canadian musician and author Neil Peart of the band Rush. Peart, who joined the band in 1974, became the group's primary lyricist and later authored several books, including the travel diary Ghost Rider. He died Tuesday, January 7, at the age of 67 following a three-and-a-half-year battle with brain cancer.

Released in 1973, Genesis’ Selling England By The Pound provided social commentary on the changing face of life in Great Britain and featured several tracks which would become staples of the band’s live show for decades to come. Former Genesis guitarist Steve Hackett has just released a live album on which he revisits the LP in its entirety and performs one song started during those sessions but which he did not finish fully writing until decades later. We’ll hear from Hackett’s new effort as well as selections from the original Genesis LP.

Released in 1989, Steady On was the acclaimed debut album from singer-songwriter Shawn Colvin. Colvin recently re-recorded the album as an all-acoustic affair we’ll hear selections from her reimagining of that release as well from Aaron Lee Tasjan’s Karma For Cheap: Reincarnated, his re-imagining of his 2018 set, Karma For Cheap.

Released in 1973, Takin’ My Time was Bonnie Raitt’s third album and featured her take on songs written by artists as diverse as Mississippi Fred McDowell and Randy Newman. We’ll hear songs from that collection and from Shawn Colvin’s 2015 effort, Uncovered.

Jackson Browne’s 1973 sophomore release, For Everyman, was notable for its inclusion of “Take It Easy,” a song that Browne started but was ultimately finished by his friend Glenn Frey of the Eagles, and “These Days,” a song Browne wrote as a teenager and which has been covered by a wide range of artists. We’ll hear selections from that album as well as from Paul Westerberg’s Come Feel Me Tremble.

Released in 1980, Terminal Jive was the second release from the band Sparks to be produced by disco/electronic music legend Giorgio Moroder. It found the brothers Ron and Russell Mael experimenting with dance music and emerging with one of their most beloved albums. We Get By is the latest album from legendary R&B singer Mavis Staples and is produced by guitarist and songwriter Ben Harper. Listen for music from this recording plus selections from Harper’s 1994 debut album Welcome to the Cruel World. We’ll remember psychedelic rock legend Roky Erickson, known for his pioneering work with the 13th Floor Elevators. Erickson, who struggled with mental illness most of his life, was the subject of the acclaimed 2005 documentary, You’re Gonna Miss Me. He died Friday, May 31.
