In 1998, Matthew Shepard, a twenty-one-year-old gay studentat the University of Wyoming was kidnapped, severely beaten, and left to die,tied to a fence outside Laramie, Wyoming. The story of that devastating hatecrime is told through the actual words of Laramie residents.

Matthew Wayne Shepard (December 1,1976-October 12, 1998) wasa gay student at the University of Wyoming, who was beaten, tortured and leftto die near Laramie on October 6, 1998. Though this horrific hate crime tookplace 21 years ago, it is still to this day, unfortunately relevant. Accordingto the FBI, hate crimes have increased for a third consecutive year withgender, race and religion being the top three categories. We will tellMatthew’s story, here at The Raven with ‘The Laramie Project’, opening October18th.
