The Festival kicks off Thursday, October 10, with The Keeper.
Against a backdrop of British post-war prejudice, a GermanSS soldier and POW signs to the Manchester City football club. A real-lifelegendary goalkeeper, Bert Trautmann’s joining the team causes outrage tothousands of soccer fans, many of them Jewish. Support comes from an unexpecteddirection: Rabbi Alexander Altmann, who fled the Nazis. Bert is supported byMargaret, an Englishwoman, whose love carries him through victory, seriousinjury, and tragedy. The Keeper raises tough questions about forgiveness andthe power of sports to unite.
