Metal has turned out to be one of rock's most diverse and long-lasting sub-genres. For this special 5th Thursday outing, we will follow the development of heavy metal from its roots in the mid 60s (Jimi Hendrix, Cream, Iron Butterfly) to its first golden era of the mid 70s to early 80s (Judas Priest, Motorhead, Angel Witch) to its commercial peak in the mid-late 80s (Def Leppard, Ratt, Metallica). The survey concludes with a selection of songs from heavy metal of the 2000s (Amon Amarth, Nightwish, Soilwork, Ghost).
