  • Gil Welcomes Stay-at-Home Dad Turned Author, David Hightower on World By Word - Sunday at 10am

TSAS dhWe have all probably seen or heard something in the news that made us say, “Someone should do something about it.” The difference with today’s Word By Word: Conversations With Writers guest, David Hightower, is that he did do something. He wrote a book.

Hightower explains,” I’m not a writer. I was a day trader in the East Bay before my wife and I came to Petaluma. My wife was pregnant when we moved, and I’ve spent a great deal of my time since then being the Dad to my four-year-old and 2-year-old boys.”

David Hightower gm“Part of that job,” Hightower continues, “is reading more than my fair share of Dr. Seuss books, so, when I read a tweet the President had done in rhyme, I responded by jotting down my response in Seussian-style poetry. I guess I was frustrated—very, very, upset with no outlet. So I wrote my book entitled The Sun Also Sets: A Seussical Indictment of Trump.

Host Gil Mansergh chats with David about the steep learning curve transitioning from a stay-at-home-Dad, to becoming a book author, publisher, distributor and marketer.

Word by Word Conversations with Writers is hosted by Gil Mansergh and can be heard on the second Sunday of the month at 10:00 am on KRCB-FM Radio 91 / streaming @ norcalpublicmedia.org / Listen on the go - download the FREE KRCB App for your favorite mobile device.

  • Great Grandpa Perform Live on the Next World Cafe – Thursday at 2pm

20191104 GreatGrandpa wcAt the release of Great Grandpa's first album, they all lived in the same Seattle apartment, and owed their sound in part to that city's roots in the Grunge movement of the 90's. Since then, two of the members of the band Carrie and Pat Goodwin had moved to Milwaukee, while the rest stayed in Seattle. That distance forced the band to stretch their sound, and that shows on their latest album Four of Arrows, which they lovingly describe as "snack rock." The band perform songs off that album live in studio, on the next World Cafe.

  • Hamilton Leithauser Talks with Host Stephen Kallao and Performs Live on World Cafe – Wednesday at 2pm

hamilton leithauser photo by lauren dukoffThe inspiration for an album can come from anywhere. For Hamilton Leithauser, it was a nice man riding a ferry, telling stories. Each song on his new record, The Loves of Your Life, is about a real person – some strangers, some friends – and he didn’t tell any of them. The former singer of The Walkmen talks with host Stephen Kallao from a feed shed at Hamilton’s family’s house in Virginia. And we’ll hear a live performance recorded from that shed, on the next World Cafe.
