LandSmart

LandSmart® is a regional collaborative program that helps land managers meet their natural resource management goals while supporting productive lands and thriving streams. LandSmart® was developed by the Sonoma Resource Conservation District (RCD), Napa County RCD, Mendocino County RCD and Gold Ridge RCD in collaboration with the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS), land managers, and environmental agencies.

Napa County Resource Conservation District

The Napa County Resource Conservation District (RCD) was formed in 1945. It is a “Special District,” a legal subdivision of the state, organized under Division 9 of the California Public Resources Code. Examples of other independent, special districts are Park and Open Space Districts, Mosquito Abatement Districts, and Flood Control and Water Conservation Districts.

Sonoma Resource Conversation District

The Sonoma Resource Conservation District (RCD) is a local non-regulatory organization whose mission is to promote responsible natural resource management through voluntary community stewardship and technical assistance.

Since 1946, the RCD has facilitated natural resource conservation through community involvement, education, technical expertise and scientific research. The RCD is committed to utilizing voluntary, cooperative and scientifically sound methods to ensure that the natural resources of the watersheds within the District are sustained, conserved, restored and protected within a landscape of productive agriculture, growing cities, and wild lands.

Russian Riverkeeper

Russian Riverkeeper actively pursues conservation and protection of the River’s mainstem, tributaries and watershed through public education, citizen action, scientific research and advocacy.

Russian Riverkeeper works towards this through by reviewing issues that could affect the health of the River, organizing River cleanups/ restoration projects at Riverkeeper Stewardship Park, and informing the community about how everyday activities that can harm the rivers health.

The Russian River is 110 miles long with headwaters North of Ukiah, near Willits, that flow southward to Forestville where it runs West and empties into the Pacific at Jenner. Today the Russian River provides water to over 600,000 residents.
