During this era, indie labels established themselves as serious contenders to the major labels, offering up creative alternatives to corporate rock product, and even scoring the occasional international hit. They offered a home to bands who pushed the boundaries of pop culture and were viewed by the major record establishment as too radical or weird. Bauhaus, Pixies, Meat Puppets, Minutemen, Sonic Youth, Scratch Acid, New Order, Cocteau Twins, Thin White Rope, My Bloody Valentine and much more.
