In July, Northern California Public Media had the chance to attend a workshop on how journalists are abandoning "horse race" election coverage (Who's Up? Who's Down?) in favor of a more nuanced approach to elections that talks about what the community wants the candidates to be addressing and how the candidates will respond to those concerns.
For our own election project, we're focusing particularly on the race in District One for Santa Rosa's City Council. We'll be holding our first virtual Town Hall on the race August 25 at 7:00 pm on our Facebook page, hosted by Community Action Partnership Sonoma County.
The video below explains how Vox, Northern California Public Media and others are changing their election coverage in line with a nationwide movement of journalists to talk about things that really matter during this election cycle.
