0526Art1{gallery}Art Start{/gallery}The Sonoma County arts education nonprofit Artstart has issued a call to youth artists to create and submit work that visually portrays their experience during the coronavirus pandemic.

The project, called Shelter in Place: A Visual Portrayal, asks young people ages 14 to 20 to explore this moment in the world and their place in it, via drawings, paintings and sketches.

“We are at the threshold of change; this extraordinary experience offers an opportunity to reflect and express,” the project invitation reads. “Let art comfort and heal, providing a crossroads to bring people together in a new way.”

Parts of all submitted sketches will be woven into the designs for a large community mural reflecting the unique perspective of this population.

In the slideshow at the left, you can view some of the submissions that have started coming in. Artstart prompted the artists with the following questions:

  • How do you currently see your role in your community?
  • Where do you find hope, strength and compassion?
  • What are the feelings of yourself and those around you?
  • How do you see this moment in history?

To participate, send a photo of your art to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.. Include your name, age, city and country, and tell Artstart about your piece.
