Though many people think all "seagulls" are alike, Alvaro Jaramillo loves to share the fascinating stories of our diverse local gulls with those wanting to learn more. A senior biologist with San Francisco Bay Bird Observatory, he astonishes tour groups with his encyclopedic knowledge not only of the wide array of gull species that live here with us in the Bay Area, but also the various life stages of each, and at what time of year they appear. He reminds us that gulls are one example of how lucky we are to live in a place where nature can be seen in proportions of world significance.
