Catholic Charities embraces staff and clients from all backgrounds and walks of life. Chief Executive Officer, Jennielynn Holmes, and Ashley Juricich, Director of Communications sat down with KRCB to talk about what the holiday season means to an organization with the breadth of scope of Catholic Charities.
Their organization is uniquely positioned to address the root causes of the toughest issues California faces and through the process, change lives.
One of the big things they do is called Winter Wonderland at the Cards House Family Center. It is like Christmas on steroids. Santa rides in on a fire truck. They have Santa And The Grinch. and the highlight of the event is when the police chief comes in to arrest the Grinch when he tries to steal the presents.
According to Juricich, when you think of the holidays, you think of warmth, and you think of safety, and you think of community and gathering, and how do you replicate that? Just because they are in a shelter, it doesn't mean that they don't have to have the feeling of home. Juricich says,"If anything, I think the sense of the holiday season just makes us want to amplify that more. Think about what does home mean to us, and then how can we bring that to the clients that we serve."
