YouTubeIt has been a hectic summer, so your boy needed to take some time off.
Jasmine Garsd and I started Alt.Latino a little over a decade and, for the last few years or so, she has been off traipsing the world as a reporter for various radio outlets. She recently returned home to NPR, so I asked this old friend to babysit the show while I recharge my batteries.
But first I had to find her! I tracked Jasmine down one summer evening and found her on a Brooklyn rooftop sipping wine and talking music with two of her besties: Verónica Bayetti Flores, who is one half of the bad-ass team that produces the Radio Menea podcast; and Alana Casanova-Burgess, part of the fab team that produced the fantastic, limited-run podcast La Brega.
The show is always in good hands when Jasmine is involved and this week is no different. The variety of musical styles is, as always, full of faves and discoveries. It's great to hear her voice again talking about music with her pals, which is how she and I started the idea for Alt.Latino all those years ago. —Felix Contreras
