This week, explore how music doesn't happen in a vacuum and is, in fact, directly tied to events taking place around us.

In October, NPR Music launched Louder Than A Riot, a short-run podcast that explores the simultaneous rise of hip-hop and the rate of incarceration for Black folks in the U.S. So we offer up some space to introduce you to this powerful program hosted by our very talented colleagues Rodney Carmichael and Sidney Madden.

LTAR has already published eight episodes, so you have a lot of catching up to do! We start with the first episode, a bold journalistic statement about how communities of color should be covered by mainstream media.
