Santa Rosa is moving forward on building a brand new park on a multi-acre stretch of land once earmarked for an extension of Highway 12. That project, which would have extended the highway over what became Spring Lake Regional Park in eastern Santa Rosa, was eventually defeated by an outpouring of community push back, and shrinking Caltrans budgets.

KRCB's Greta Mart spoke with Santa Rosa-raised Andrew Bowen, now a metro reporter at KPBS in San Diego and producer of the podcast Freeway Exit, for some history on Santa Rosa's highways, and the legacy of America's freeway frenzy.
