One Injured in Shooting Near Ridgway High School Campus; School Lockdowns Lifted
Written by: Adia White
A 16-year-old student was shot just before 9 a.m. near the Ridgway High School Campus at the intersection of Ridgway and Morgan street. According to Santa Rosa Police Captain John Cregan, the victim was shot twice in the upper body by another Ridgway student. The victim is in stable condition at the hospital and is expected to survive. The two teenagers were arguing on the street when one pulled out a gun and shot the other. The suspect put the gun into a backpack which he then gave to an unknown person who left the area. Police are still searching for the gun.
Witnesses told Santa Rosa Police that the shooter fled to the Ridgway High School Campus. Police and SWAT searched the campus and detained the suspect around an hour and a half after the shooting.
Ridgway and Santa Rosa High were placed on lockdown immediately after the shooting. Those lockdowns have been lifted and police say there is no longer a threat to students. Classes at both schools have resumed.
Santa Rosa Police Department Captain John Cregan published a facebook video describing this morning's events at 1 p.m.
