The 2016 Trails Challenge invites residents and visitors to discover the beauty of Sonoma County and the healthy fun of trail sports by hiking, biking, running, or riding five or more parks featured in the Trails Challenge’s free, downloadable guidebook anytime now through the end of September.

Finishers who turn in an online trails log will get a Trails Challenge commemorative pin. Participants that post a hiking selfie or trail photo on Regional Parks’ Facebook or Instagram using #SonomaCountyParks #TrailsChallenge, will be eligible for monthly giveaways of park memberships and packs, tents, and other gear from REI and CamelBak.

Children who take the Trails Challenge also will get a prize plus a Trails Challenge Explorer certificate and a free nature-themed book compliments of the Sonoma County Library and the Regional Parks Foundation.  The guidebook features easy, moderate and strenuous hikes ranging from 2 to 9 miles along with key facts about the parks, turn-by-turn trail notes, maps, and driving directions.

New for 2016, the guidebook recommends themed hikes - including an all-park challenge of more than 50 miles – and combined hikes at Hood Mountain/Sugarloaf Ridge is available in Spanish for the first time.  A limited number of print copies are still available at the staffed entries to Spring Lake, Ragle Ranch, and at the Regional Parks' main office.

If you've hiked the Trails Challenge before, please join us again and explore new itineraries at Hood Mountain, Shiloh Ranch, Helen Putnam, Spring Lake, and others.  Also new this year is a suggested reading list of outdoors-themed books for children and adults created by the Sonoma County Library.
