Such engagement is a great example of how a volunteer group can be instrumental with maintaining a clean and safe trail for all to use, specifically in and around the Roseland Village area.

This is part of a greater coalition of volunteer and staff cleanup projects on the whole 14 mile trail.  Staff alone is never enough.  We rely heavily on our ongoing partnerships as they become more proactive in their own communities and truly have pride in ownership.  We hope this example becomes an inspiration to other neighborhood and community groups to partner with us on our common goals and aspirations.

This multi-use, paved pathway goes from Santa Rosa’s Railroad Square area all the way through Sebastopol and into Forestville.  Back in 1904 this whole stretch was once the Petaluma & Santa Rosa Railway.  County Parks slowly acquired the rail line corridor over several years.  The trail is flat and is an essential connective conduit for several communities and serves as a link to two other prominent urban trails: Santa Rosa’s Price Memorial Greenway, and the developing Smart Rail Trail.

We’ve also collaborated with the Roseland Parent’s Club to provide bilingual monthly hikes “Nuestros Parques,” or “Our Parks." The next hike is scheduled for April 2nd through Crane Creek Regional Park in Rohnert Park. These outings are open to all as a family friendly introduction to hiking.   The event is completely free, with no cost to parking likewise.  Some previous destinations have included Taylor Mountain, Spring Lake, Helen Putnam, Foothill, and Ragle Ranch.
