The birds’ behavior offers clues as to whether they are nesting nearby or not, says Madrone Audubon Society President Gordon Beebe.

By updating the atlas every 20 years, the birdwatchers can track changes in the local avian population over time. One notable difference in this census, says Beebe, is the arrival of an invasive dove species.

The three-mile blocks that the Audubon Society has not yet been able to survey are shown in yellow on the map below. Property owners who are willing to allow their lands to be visited for this purpose should contact the Madrone Audubon Society via their website or by calling  (707) 479-0108.
