A Play By Steph Smith
Main Stage West is proud to announce the California premiere of: SWALLOW by the celebrated new Scottish playwright Stef Smith, running January 11 – 27, 2019, at 104 North Main Street in Sebastopol. The production is directed by Missy Weaver and stars Michelle Maxson*, Skyler Cooper, and Dana Scott. SWALLOW runs Thursday – Sunday.
Playful, poignant, and ultimately uplifting, Stef Smith’s SWALLOW is a study in the redeeming power of human connection. Questions of identity, heartbreak and hope are explored with vivid, poetic intensity. Three strangers, who are about to face their demons head-on, balance precariously on the tipping point where they might just be able to save one another. Anna (Dana Scott) hasn’t left home for months; she has stopped eating and is smashing her flat up bit by bit. Rebecca (Michelle Maxson*) is so furious that her ex-has found a new love that she turns her anger on herself. While Sam (newcomer, Skyler Cooper), is taking her first risky steps toward becoming the man she feels herself to be and, in doing, exposes herself to the chance for genuine warmth and affection.
